road construction signrSPRINGFIELD, IL – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) recently announced an extensive Transportation Reconstruction program.  The program aims to update the state’s infrastructure, including roads, bridges and public transit.

Illinois State Senator Linda Holmes (D–Aurora) praised the program and highlighted the improvements at Canadian National Railroad.

“The grade separation and retaining wall at the Canadian National Railroad crossing near Rt. 34 will be a significant upgrade for commuters in Aurora,” Holmes said.  “This project is sorely needed to improve the congested traffic in this area.”

Construction for the improvements related to the railroad grade separation begins in 2014. The other projects are scheduled for 2015-2019.

Improvements in the 42nd District include:

•    Railroad Grade Separation, Retaining Wall, New Bridge at Canadian National Rail Road on Rt. 34
•    Intersection Improvement at Harvey Road
•    Road Resurfacing on Rt. 59 from Aurora Avenue to McCoy Drive.
•    Road Resurfacing on Hill Avenue from Montgomery Road to Ogden Avenue (US 34).
